Reason #1: LOLkids.
I jumped online this morning to check my emails.
Despite being against everything I learned from GTD and Inbox Zero and The Four Hour Work Week - I did it because I was just hoping there would be something interesting in my inbox.
There was. Which is why I love the internet.
It all began with an email from @nedwin who also runs electrorash.
Ned told me that someone had criticised Droga5’s Guitar Hero campaign (which I was fortunate enough to work on).
I clicked through to the criticism to find a stellar Tumblr run by @kripy - digital manager for Modular Records.
I flicked through and found:
- Last FM’s Best of 2008.
- Chris “Bumblebeez” Colonna’s Tumblr.
- Ksubi’s Tumblr.
- PopArt star KAWS.
KAWS on Kanye
I posted about the Last FM list on Twitter and a few minutes later, @sophiebenjamin replied which reminded me I hadn’t been to her blog in a while.
This is what I found:
- William Fitzimmons incredible music.
- Ace Ventura Jr Pet Detective Trailer.
- The ‘I Love Satan’ photo at the top of this post.
- The ‘Soldier at War’ image at the bottom of this post.
- Pete Drake’s weird and wonderful ‘Forever’.
While browsing, I also flicked through my Twitter feed and found:
- The Guardian Critic’s Poll of The Best Music of 2008.
- @genrobey linking to John Stewart.
- @nickhac on Enterprise Social Media Intelligence.
- @juliancole on Hip Hop and Community and funny Kiwi ads.
- Analysis of Google’s business model.
- @tomjd linking to the Worst Foreign Policy Predictions of 2008. This was my favourite:
- “If [Hillary Clinton] gets a race against John Edwards and Barack Obama, she’s going to be the nominee. Gore is the only threat to her, then. … Barack Obama is not going to beat Hillary Clinton in a single Democratic primary. I’ll predict that right now.”
One of Reuters’ images of the year.
This is why TV and newspapers are dying.
They simply cannot compete with the quality, social interactivity and diversity of the content available online.
